Gaited Pleasure Horses

Welcome to Cross Bar C Farms

The Cross Bar C is a thirty three acre hobby farm located in East Central Illinois. Our farm borders the well known Middle Fork Preserve, which is very popular for trail riding. The name represents our family, (Butch, Sandy and our 14 year old son, Ethan) and acknowledges Gods Grace in our lives.

Over the years, we have dabbled in Paints, QH, Apps, purebred and part Arabians. When we became familiar with the gaited horses that appeared more often on the trails, it did not take long for us to realize that they were what we wanted; a well bred, smooth gaited, easy going, quality horse. Over a dozen years, all of our horses, except for our gorgeous Bay Arab gelding, Zar have been replaced with high quality gaited horses.

In our breeding program, we aim to produce horses that are good legged and balanced, with pretty heads, kind temperaments, naturally gaited, and of good size and substance. We want horses that have a wide chest with a good matching rear end. We emphasize easy going, naturally gaited, quality horses that are beautiful to look at and sound in mind and body.

Spotted horses are our goal, but quality comes first. Our quality mares are crossed with quality stallions that have proven they can produce the traits we desire.

Just as we have in our Aussie breeding, we lean heavily towards the foundation horses of the breeds. Genetics is an applied science. Our solid understanding of genetics in our dogs lends itself readily to the horses.

We purposely work on a small scale and plan to keep our population under ten. This allows us the time and energy to handle all the horses / foals ourselves.

We are expecting a TWH foal, hopefully spotted, May 06.

We are presenting this site for fellow horse fanciers to show what a small farm has to offer. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Thank you for taking the time to visit.
