Search and Rescue
There are several kinds of Search and Rescue
dogs. Both Hawk and Nunzi are what are called Disaster Search dogs, the
most demanding and highly trained. They search carefully thru rubble
looking for victims, indicating by barking that they have made a find
and then stay with the victim, until the rescue arrives. They then move
on and continue to search. This is hard, demanding work that takes a
strong work ethic and a great team effort between the dog and its handler.
To all of those that put in the hours, in any kind of training, THANK
YOU ! Your efforts are greatly appreciated. I am especially proud of
Hawk and Cathy and Nunzi and Kathy !!

GREAT NEWS, Nunzi is now one of 70 FEMA
Type I dogs in the country!
On Aug. 15, 2006 Nunzi passed the FEMA Advanced test in Texas. Not
only did he pass the Type I test, he was one of only 3 dogs out of
9 to find all the victims!
"What made the day especially memorable was that Cathy Schiltz was one of
the nine evaluators. It was really neat to have the person who initially inspired
me to do search and rescue w/Nunzi disaster work no less, which is so demanding
was part of the test we passed." Kathy
Nunzi is a nephew to Hawk, who was at the
Twin Towers for 11 days, and is now retired at 11. |
